Tanzania's iconic ecosystems, home to some of Africa's most significant concentrations of wildlife and biodiversity, face growing pressure from habitat loss, agricultural encroachment, climate change and the exclusion of local communities from conservation decision-making. While community conservancies are emerging as a powerful model for protecting wildlife while generating sustainable livelihoods, they remain fragmented, under-resourced and lacking the institutional support needed to realise their full potential.
Nawiri aims to strengthen community-led conservation and improve governance of Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). By partnering with local organisations and communities, Nawiri supports more inclusive decision-making, enhances ecosystem stewardship, and promotes approaches that align conservation outcomes with community priorities and sustainable livelihoods.
We partner with Nawiri Foundation as part of LGT Venture Philanthropy's environment strategy to scale up the protection and regeneration of threatened and destroyed ecosystems. We provide comprehensive support across three areas:
implementing partners onboarded
active programs
students benefiting from scholarships provided
schools receiving support from Nawiri Foundation
Our partnership with LGT Venture Philanthropy unlocks flexible, multi-year funding, enabling us and our trusted local partners to scale successful approaches to community-led conservation and create lasting landscape level impact across East Africa.
